August Doghouse Holidays

August Doghouse Holidays

We are having August off to soak up some sun, lounge and prepare for our autumn programme. The next gig is on September 2nd and features a band from Bristol called Sex Machina. We confidently predict that this band are going to make it as there demo CD is top stuff. In years gone by I was lucky to receive first demos from Billy Bragg, Wedding Present, Pop Will Eat Itself and PJ Harvey. All stood out as destined for success, and Sex Machina are the same. More info on them soon but check out their website and tunes at www.sexmachina.co.uk

Support will be from local band Dead At 27. The sound of young Halifax? possibly, great lively tunes, complete with humour and attitude. This is how they describe themselves:

Dead at 27 formed late in the month of December 2002. As the nights got
darker sooner, and the sensible animals hibernated, four guys with separate,
yet equally magnificent talents came together and played in unison,
producing some of the worst sounds known to mankind.

Steve met Paul at a rock club, but instantly wished he hadn't when Paul
promptly vomitted before him. Paul had just started 6th form where he became
friends with Jonny, united through their love of music. Jonny had previously
encountered Si and it took some time before the eventually realised that as
they all played instruments... maybe they should play together.

Steve heard this commotion over a pot noodle and set out to investigate.
Upon seeing there was no bass player, he turned away is disapointment before
thinking... "Hey I play bass!" And so the legend began, in the kitchen unit
of an MDF porta cabin.

They quickly developed a sense of musical unity and wowed crowds all over
town.

Three EPs down the line (yet still no album!) Dead At 27 have explored new
influences and grown both musically and in performance. There have been ups,
and there have been downs, and needless to say, some degree of indigestion
followed.

After a year of ifs, buts and playing largely without Jonny due to him
mysteriously being in other countries, Dead At 27 are back, firing on all
cylinders with a summer tour plus some local dates to come. The shrapnel
which was scattered back in September 2004 is once again reunited, and the
Dead At 27 moose cries rock once more!

So keep an ear to the ground!
